Richters Herbs
Plants, Seeds, More!!

We hope you can come to Rabbit Hill Gardens for herbs, but if not, and since we don't mail order herbs, we recommend RICHTERS for mail order plants and for seeds.  They are based in Canada, but easily ship to the United States.  Plants are tiny but are always healthy and they have an excellent selection of seeds.

Mountain Rose Herbs. A Herbs, Health & Harmony Company Since 1987
MOUNTAIN ROSE HERBS is the place we recommend for purchasing mail order herbal botanicals.  We found them after hearing about them from many of the herbalists we trust and know would only use the finest ingredients in their herbal products.

A PINCH OF HERBS is Susan's blog.  "Like a lot of bloggers, I got real excited when I first set up my blog but soon found it soaked up more precious time than I had expected and after only a handful of entries I stopped writing. I still like the idea, however, and am determined to give it another try. My plan: to photograph and write about my own garden and about other nurseries, herb farms, herb shops, garden shops, herb fairs, butterfly farms, public and private gardens, herb society meetings and garden tours I visit/attend. And links to other online articles related to herbs and gardening I find interesting."

Lake County Extension      THE DISCOVERY GARDENS are part of the Lake County Horticulture Learning Center  at the Lake County Extension Service on Highway 19 in Tavares. This is a terrific place to get gardening ideas using plants that do well in our area. We also recommend the plant clinic at the Lake County Extension Service for horticulture advice from the Master Gardeners who man the desk and phones. Go see them in person or call them at (352) 343-4101. They also do soil pH tests for $1.00.

Leu Gardens       HARRY P. LEU GARDENS in Orlando is another great place to explore plants that grow in this area. They also hold great workshops in gardening and garden-related crafts.
The Herb Society of Central Florida holds its meetings here the first Monday of every month. Check our CALENDAR to see the scheduled topics for the next year.

Floridata       FLORIDATA  offers a wealth of horticultural information.
We particularly like their individual plant profiles. Floridata is intended for readers all over the United States, but is based in Northern Florida, so the information is more appropriate for this area than the information on many other websites.

American Botanical Council

The AMERICAN BOTANICAL COUNCIL has valuable information on medicinal plants.

THE TAUNTON PRESS, publisher of FINE GARDENING magazine has a Guide to Pronouncing Botanical Latin complete with audio. Think you know how to pronounce those botanical names?  If you're like me, you'll be surprised at how wrong you've been.

Yahoo Groups has a good GROUP for people interested in herbs and aromatherapy.
Some of the country's best aromatherapists and herbalists contribute to this group which is quite active with many messages a day (I get mine emailed in digest form).

Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy      If you live in Central Florida and are interested in studying Aromatherapy, one of the best  aromatherapists in the country, Sylla Sheppard-Hanger of the ATLANTIC INSTITUTE OF AROMATHERAPY, is close by in Tampa.
Her classes are excellent as are those of Dr. Robert Pappas, chemistry professor at Indiana University specializing in the chemistry of essential oils and a frequent teacher at the Atlantic Institute.

Renningers Antique Market       If you're thinking of making a trip to Mount Dora, you may want to coordinate your trip with one of Renninger's Extravaganzas or Fairs, weekends when there are more than the usual number of antique dealers.
We have these Extravaganzas and Fairs listed on our CALENDAR, but more information can be obtained on their website, RENNINGERS.COM.

Sweet Maggie         Anyone who has been to Rabbit Hill Gardens has probably been greeted by Maggie, our Border Collie (pictured left after a romp through those sticky-seeded weeds).
BORDERCOLLIE.ORG is a great website all about Border Collies including why we agree with Donald McCaig*  that  keeping the Border Collie the wonderful and unique breed it is means never buying an AKC registered Border Collie.

*Donald McCaig is author of  Nop's Trials  and one of the best books ever written about border collies: Eminent Dogs, Dangerous Men: Searching Through Scotland for a Border Collie
